Abstract

Abstract: Backgrounds and Objectives Eating disorder (ED) is characterized by a persistent disturbance of eating or eating-related behavior that results in significantly impaired physical health and psychosocial functioning. It has been revealed that ED subjects had significantly lower sleep efficiency. The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence of eating disorder risk and its association with body mass index (BMI) and sleep status among primary high school girls in Zanjan, Iran Materials and Methods Teenaged girl students (12 – 15 years old, N = 370) participated in a descriptive study with a cross-sectional design, completed eating attitude test (EAT-26) and Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI) questionnaires. Cluster random sampling method was applied. Disordered eating attitudes, recent sleep quality and anthropometric measures were extracted. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 24.0. Results There was a significant positive relationship between Sleep Quality Score and eating disorder risk in this study (P value <0.001). There was no significant relationship between waist circumference, weight, and BMI with the risk of eating disorder (P value > 0.05). Conclusion This study demonstrated that the prevalence of eating disorder risk was high among school students. Further studies needed to evaluate the correlation between eating disorder risks and sleep quality as well as BMI. Keywords: Eating disorder, Sleep quality, BMI, Girl students
