Abstract

Background: Access to prenatal care has a very important role in reducing maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity in the world. Objective: To evaluate the effect of integration of maternal health cares program to reduce pregnancy and delivery complications in the Qazvin province Methods: This cohort was done on women who came to maternal health centers in Qazvin cities. The sampling was purposive. The researcher made questioner used for data collection that included three parts: pre-pregnancy, pregnancy and postpartum. All information was gotten from clinical files, observations, interviews with relevant responsible (general practitioners or midwives) and mothers were referred to the clinics. Samples were followed up from the time of study entry until postpartum. The two groups were examined for pregnancy complications. Data were analyzed by independent t-test, Chi-square, fisher exact and Mann-Whitney U-test. Findings: The rate of gestational complications, including hypertension (p=0.03), preterm delivery (p=0.03), premature infants (p=0.02) were fewer reported in mothers who cared with the integrated maternal health cares. However, the referral rate to high-risk was higher (p=0.001) in this program. Conclusion: The results of this study show that, despite the integrated maternal program was implemented about 60% in Alborz, has been able to reduce gestational complications. It seems that integration of maternal health cares program with acuity by the performers has a positive role in promoting maternal health.
