Background: Depression and anxiety are among the most common psychiatric disorders in general population. Chronic diseases like bronchiectasis can accompany with increased level of anxiety and depression and may negatively effect the patient function and quality of life. Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the association of anxiety and depression with bronchiectasis. Methods: This case control study was conducted among 62 patient with bronchiectasis referred to the qazvin hospitals between 2014 to 2016. Depression and anxiety were assessed by the bech depression inventory and kettel anxiety questionnaire. Control group was been chosen among people with congruent demographic features. Data were analyzed using SPSS 22 by Chi_square and ANOVA test. Finding: Depression and anxiety rate among patient with bronchiectasis was 40.4% and 43.6% respectively. This amounts was 32.8% and 32.2% in control group. The difference was not statically significant. Demographic features were not associated to the frequency of depression and anxiety. But it seemed to be an association between depression and anxiety and sputum volume, 6MWT performance, and frequency of exacerbations. Conclusion: However this study didn't proove a significant association between depression and anxiety with bronchiectasis, the frequency of these disorders are significant in both patient and control group and need to special consideration.
