Abstract

Introduction: Menstrual disorders among teenage female students have a potential negative impact on their physical and emotional health, and their social and school performance. Materials and Methods: The study population included 1,000 high school female students in the academic year of 2016-2017 in Qazvin. These students were evaluated for menstrual cycle disorders and health-related quality of life. Results: The mean age of the study population was 15.9 ± 0.93 years. There was a significant reverse relationship between the quality of life of students with PMS (P <0.0001), menorrhagia (P <0.0001), metrorrhagia (P <0.0001), dysmenorrhea (P <0.0001), spotting (P <0.0001), hypermenorrhea (P <0.0001), polymenorrhea (P = 0.005), hypomenorrhea (P = 0.002), and amenorrhea (P = 0.025). So that the quality of life scores of girls with these disorders was significantly lower than those who did not have any menstrual dysfunction. Conclusion: The findings of this study about prevalence of menstrual problems among Qazvin high school students and its relation with their quality of life showed that the menstrual disorders are prevalent among these student and these disorders have a significant negative impact on their quality of life.
