Abstract

Abstract Backgrand and aims: Nutrition plays an important role in the health of mother and child Pregnancy also provides a good opportunity for educating pregnant women, and the proper use of this opportunity can lead to increased public awareness of nutrition and may also affect future behaviors related to the nutrition of her and her family. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of nutrition education on the basis of theory on improving nutritional behaviors in pregnant women. Materials and Methods: This study is an experimental study of clinical trial. The number of 182 pregnant women included 91 in the control group and 91 in the intervention group in the study. The nutritional status of mothers was assessed by a semi-quantitative feed frequency questionnaire also, the educational model constructs were evaluated through a researcher-made questionnaire. The assessment in mothers was completed in three stages at first (before intervention), one month after the intervention, and then after 2 months of intervention. The intervention consisted of 3 sessions of 60 minutes. To evaluate the effect of intervention on model structures, Repeated Measures (ANOVA) were used. Results: The results showed that the mean scores of the theoretical constructs (attitude, abstract norms, perceived behavioral control, and intention) in the intervention group increased significantly with time (P<0.001). However, there was no significant difference in control group after time (P> 0.05). The results also showed that the consumption of these food groups in the intervention group was significantly higher than the healthy nutritional behavior before and after the intervention (P <0.001). Conclusion: The overall results showed that according to the present study, nutrition education based on the theory can improve the nutritional behaviors of pregnant women and improve the scores related to theoretical components. key words: Theory of Planned Behavior, Nutrition education, Mother, Pregnancy, Attitude
