Abstract

Background: Hospital Emergency preparedness in dealing with crises and disasters is essential for their success in providing quality services. The aim of this study was to evaluate emergency preparedness in hospitals of Qazvin University of Medical Sciences in responding to the crisis. Methods: This was a cross - sectional study of 6 hospital emergencies of Qazvin University of medical sciences in 2013. Data was collected by hospital emergency response checklists with 90 questions (command and control, communication, safety and security, triage, surge capacity, continuity of essential services, human resources, logistics and supply management, post-disaster recovery) with observation and interview. Data analysis was performed usingcentral indexes and tables, graphs were used to describe and show results. Findings: The most and the least preparedness against disaster was in command and control (80.83%) and materials and inventory management with 57% fields. The overall level of emergency preparedness of hospitals to deal with disasters studied at 70.72% were evaluated. Conclusion: Regarding the previous of disasters in the studied provinces and the good preparedness of the hospitals,having an estimate of the essential sources and medicines, equipment maintenance, rapid preparation of materials and strengthening the hospital buildings will be effective in enhancing the preparation of the hospitals.
