Background: Hydatidosis is one of the most important zoonotic diseases in many parts of the world, including Iran. The parasite has various genotypes that their identification can affect the determination of epidemiological issues and control of disease in humans and animals. Objective: This study was conducted to determine the different genotypes of goat and cattle hydatid cysts in Qazvin. Materials & Methods: Seventy animal hydatid cyst isolates were collected from Qazvin slaughterhouse. After fertility confirmation of samples, fifteen isolates (10 from cattle and 5 from goats) were sellected randomly and the mitochondrial co1 genes was amplified and sequenced. Phylogenetic analysis was done by using the MEGA 7.0 software. Results: After sequencing of amplified products, it was determined that 80% of cattle hydatid cysts and 100% of goat cysts belonged to the genotype G1. The remaining 20% of bovine cysts were genotypes G2 (10%) and G3 (10%). Conclusion: In the present study, G1, G2 and G3 genotypes were the causative agent of hydatidosis in Qazvin. G1 was the predominant genotype in the region. More molecular investigations are proposed to establish control programs to prove the presence or absence of other genotypes in the region.
