Abstract

Background and aim: Job performance is an important organizational behavior that plays a significant role in the success of organizations. According to this, the present study aimed to investigate the mediating role of entrepreneurial behaviors in the relationship between social capital and job performance among faculty members of Qazvin University of Medical Sciences. Material and Methods: This is an applied study that was conducted using analytical and crosssectional method based on structural equation modeling among all faculty members working at Qazvin University of Medical Sciences in 2017. All members responded to the Social Capital Scale (Ghoshal), the Entrepreneurial Behavior Questionnaire (Zampetekis & Moustakis), and the Job Performance Questionnaire (Paterson). Data were analyzed using the structural equation modeling by LISREL. Results: The results revealed that social capital and entrepreneurial behaviors of the faculty members had a significant and direct relationship with their job performance. The findings also indicated that the components of entrepreneurial behaviors in organization and social capital could predict 11.6% of job performance’s variance. The direct effect of social capital on job performance (path coefficient: 0.24) and its indirect effect with the mediating role of entrepreneurial behaviors (path coefficient: 0.20) were confirmed (P> 0.05). Conclusion: according to the key role of faculty members in the knowledge-based development, investigating their social capital status is very important. Promoting social capital in universities has remarkable advantages, which could a positive effect on members’ job performance through strengthen the mutual trust, empathy as well as coherence. On the other hand, social capital has an important role in the emergence and development of entrepreneurial activities. Therefore, managers can contribute to strengthening the job performance, in addition to developing entrepreneurial behavior in employees.
